Energy Survey now complete

We have completed our Energy Survey as part of our preparations for IPPC. We were assisted in this by an Initial Assessment of Energy Saving Opportunities at Chemical Recoveries. This assessment and report are provided by Shaw E&I, Europe and have been funded by the Action Energy programme.

We have looked at our consumption of Gas, Electricity and Water.

The graphs below show where and how much we use:

The site consumes approximately 4.2 million kWh of energy per annum (based on the twelve months up to the end of March 2004), costing a total of almost £83,000. For the avoidance of doubt, all energy terms are in delivered energy.

Where do use Electricity? -

A very rough split of the site’s electrical consumption is given below: 

 Unfortunately it was not possible to undertake a similar analysis of the combined gas and gas oil consumption of the steam boilers as the oil delivery dates do not necessarily relate to the period of consumption.

Recommendations to reduce consumption

The recommendations listed below are prioritised, reflecting a balance between the time to implement, estimated cost to implement and savings expected.  Recommendations scoring favourably on all three criteria are highest priority, two out of three medium priority.
